Charity Wedding - Amount Raised

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!

The last few months have flown by and we can't believe it's already been over 2 months since the Charity Ball, at which the Win a Wedding raffle was drawn for us by the Mayor of Bath (see pic below). We thought we really should let everyone know how much was raised, now that all the accounting side of things has finally been sorted and all money received. The grand total raised from both the Win a Wedding raffle and the Ball was £3,928.30 - we're very proud to have been able to hand that over to The Forever Friends Appeal recently, where the money will be put towards new equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

We'd like to say a massive thank you to all of the fabulous suppliers who donated their time/services/products to the Charity Wedding and Ball. We hope that people will bear these fantastic companies in mind in the future! We'd also like to thank all of those who bought raffle tickets and those who came along to the Ball. We had a fantastic night :0)

Our lucky winners are Katie Mclean and Andrew Hurrell (pictured below with Kerry from Snapdragon and daughter Freya, who was the inspiration for fundraising for the NICU), from Bristol. We're all really looking forward to their wedding in June!

National Media Coverage

Just had to share a quick piece of exciting news - yesterday Snapdragon Weddings was quoted in an article which appeared in the Daily Express!

The article is called The Way We Wed and looks at changes in weddings in the three decades between the weddings of Charles and Diana in 1981 and William and Kate in 2011.

For those who missed it, it's also online - http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/241965/The-way-we-wed

Top Tips - How to Choose your Wedding Photographer

To kick off my new blog space, I am planning a series of articles on Top Tips, with the first one focusing on how to choose your wedding photographer.

Searching for a photographer

Good photographers get booked up well in advance, so finding your photographer should be one of the first things on your to do list, when you have your venue booked.

For the stress free route to finding a photographer who is reliable, within your budget and available on your wedding date, you could consider a Supplier Sourcing Service.  A standard search costs just £50, yet you can save well in excess of this with the discounts/added extras offered to Snapdragon clients by our preferred suppliers!

Some photographers offer specific wedding packages at set prices, whereas others will charge for a specific number of hours coverage on the day and you can add in any extras such as coverage of your preparations/speeches.   Work out which approach suits you best.

Budget considerations

One thing I feel is important to remember when choosing your wedding photographer, is that your photographs will be your lasting reminder of the day.  Although you need to work within your budget, I would always advise going for the best you can afford, as the memories they will leave you with can be priceless.

For those of you on a tight budget, you might want to consider going for a DVD only option and getting a disc of images that you can print and add to an album yourself.

Whichever way the price is built up, just make sure you are clear on exactly what is included and any extras you would have to pay for separately, such as additional hours coverage on the day and travel costs.

Meeting photographers

Having done your initial research, try to meet a few photographers.  You should ask to see some complete albums of their work, rather than just a selection of their best images from a number of different weddings.

Make sure you are happy with the style of photography and have confidence that the photographer will work with you to produce exactly what you want, whether that’s more traditional posed shots, informal reportage style photography or a mixture of both styles.

The meetings should also help you to decide who you feel most relaxed with.  It is important to have a photographer that you get on well with and feel relaxed around, as you will feel more at ease on the day and this will show in your photos.

When you have booked...

If you are not keen on being photographed, consider a pre wedding photo shoot.  This can help to relax you in front of the camera and with your photographer.

Make sure your photographer has a list of any specific posed shots that you want taken on the day, so that nothing gets forgotten.

It can also be really helpful to ask a few of your attendants to help to collect people for any required group shots.  They are more likely to know your wedding guests than your photographer is, so it can help make it a much smoother and less obtrusive  process than your photographer having to announce a list of who is needed for the next shot every few minutes.

Try to meet up with your photographer at your venue in the run up to your wedding, to ensure he/she is familiar with the venue and the various locations which work well for photographs there.

If you are having your ceremony and reception at the same location, you may like to talk to your photographer about heading off either within the grounds or somewhere nearby for some shots of just the two of you together.  This can have the double advantage of some great photos and also gives you some time on your own together which you may not otherwise have.

Finally, make sure you have back up plans in case of rain.  Umbrellas and wellies can make for some great photos and your venue is bound to have some fabulous locations indoors should the need arise.  Should it rain on the day (which apparently is a symbol of good luck, you’ll be pleased to hear!), then your back up plans are already in place, meaning you avoid any last minute stress.

This has ended up being somewhat longer than originally planned but I hope you have found it useful!  Please feel free to get in touch via our contact form with any suggestions for areas you would like to see some tips on in future blog posts.

It wouldn’t be right to talk about photography without including some fabulous pics for you, so here is a selection of amazing photos from some of our preferred photographers to finish with.  Enjoy!
